National Board
The RVA Board consists of leaders dedicated to the growth and stewardship of the retirement village and providing outstanding lifestyles for senior Australians.
They understand the lifestyle aspirations of older Australians, the benefits of retirement village living and the range of industry dynamics that shape the future.
The National Board is elected from each region, which provides great strength and networking across Australia. The Board is representative of the spectrum of operators, including larger corporate and listed companies, church and charitable / not for profit organisations and independent single village operators.
The Board is responsible for policy direction and governance and meets eight times each year.
The Board is supported by a number of Regional Committees, which ensure grass-roots participation and an understanding of local issues, and consultative groups that assist in representing the industry on key emerging issues (such as tax, planning, professional development etc).

Derek McMillan, Vice President
Group Executive, Australian Unity Retirement Living (VIC/TAS)
Derek is the Group Executive of Australian Unity Retirement Living and is passionate about the future of the industry and its importance in meeting the evolving needs of Australians as they age.
The Australian Unity approach is to deliver a fully integrated model of service that provides the opportunity of a 'continuum of care' from independent living and in-home services through to premium quality residential aged care.
"While resort-style villages are glamorous and appeal to a more independent retiree, I believe one of the greatest needs in Australia is for accommodation and services for the 75 year plus age group," says Derek. "The needs of this older age group can transform rapidly and they require access to a variety of lifestyle, support and care services at different periods. Therefore, at Australian Unity we are building a service proposition tailored to individual needs."
Australian Unity is a particularly strong advocate for the aged care and retirement living industry and is increasingly represented at various industry and government round tables.
