Privacy Policy Statement

THE RETIREMENT VILLAGE ASSOCIATION LTD ABN 18 100 945 211, acknowledges the importance of protecting the privacy of its members and the privacy of other users who may access services provided by the RVA website. The following privacy statement applies to all information provided by individuals or organisations seeking services or providing information to the RVA.

We are bound by the Privacy Act 1988, which addresses the handling of personal information.

This privacy policy statement relates to our current privacy practices at the published date, being January 2008. We may vary this privacy policy statement from time to time and variations will be notified on our website www.rva.com.au or you may request a current copy from the RVA National Office. See contact details below.

Collection of Information (NPP1)

The RVA collects personal information in order to deliver services and products to its members, and to the broader retirement village community.

For people using the RVA web site your IP address will be collected to assist with the diagnosis of problems and support issues associated with our services. Information is gathered in aggregate only and cannot be traced to an individual user.

For the purposes of site user analysis, the RVA utilises third party software to assess site traffic. A tracking code is used to collect the following information:

The RVA will only collect personal information from individuals where it is required for the purposes of providing specific services to individuals or organisations. Information will only be collected in a lawful and fair manner. Where users do not feel comfortable providing information required to access a specific service they should contact the RVA at operations@rva.com.au.

Where individuals wish to access any personal information provided to the RVA via its web site this can be achieved by contacting operations@rva.com.au.

Information collected by the RVA via its web site will not routinely be passed on to any third party organisations without the consent of the individual. Where any information may be provided from the RVA web site to a third party this will be clearly stated before individuals can access any RVA web based services.

Use and disclosure (NPP2)

The RVA  will only use or disclose information provided for the purposes that it was collected (primary purpose) unless a person has consented, or the secondary purpose is related to the primary purpose and the person would reasonable expect such use or disclosure. Personal information may be disclosed when it is necessary to assist the enforcement body to perform its function or to prevent a threat to life and ensure health and safety.

Data quality (NPP3)

The RVA will take all reasonable steps to ensure that all personal information it collects or uses will be accurate, complete and up to date.

Data security (NPP4)

The RVA will take all reasonable steps to protect personal information that it collects or holds from misuse, loss or unauthorised access. The RVA will not be held responsible for events arising from unauthorised access of your personal information.

Openness (NPP5)

On request individuals can be advised on the sort of data that the RVA holds on that individual, how that information is held and how it discloses that information.

Access and correction (NPP6)

Where a request is made by an individual to access their personal information access will be provided by the RVA. Where a person requires access to update or amend an inaccuracy in their personal information access will also be provided. For any changes to be made to your personal details you should email the RVA at operations@rva.com.au

Exceptions to access of personal information apply, such as where this would pose a serious threat to life or health, it is vexatious, it impacts on another person’s privacy, there are legal proceedings, or it is prejudicial to a police enquiry.

The RVA provides links from its web site to third party organisations. These third party sites/organisations are not within the control of the RVA and we do not accept responsibility for the conduct of these organisations. The RVA will not be liable for any damages or loss arising in any way out of or in connection with service provided by any third party.

Identifiers (NPP7)

In addition to a persons personal identification the RVA will also provide a membership number to RVA members. 

Anonymity (NPP8)

Where it is practicable, and where personal identification is not required the RVA will provide people with the option to communicate with anonymity.

Transborder data flow (NPP9)

The RVA will not transfer personal information to a recipient in a foreign country:

  1. Without the prior consent of any individual whose personal information is contained in that data

  2. Unless the country in question has similar privacy legislation and protections as Australia.

Sensitive Information (NPP10)

The RVA will not collect sensitive information unless the person has consented or it is required by law or in special circumstances, for example, to a health service or for public health or safety.
