Life is happy and active at Victoria Grove, SA.

It’s all about living “a new way of living” and the village is alive with activities.

There’s something for everyone.

Victoria Grove offers a very pleasant and welcoming communal environment, established now for 17 years in the leafy, eastern suburbs of Adelaide and close to the city centre.

Victoria Grove has that homely, old fashioned feel about it with a Federation style Villa and Community Centre incorporating the Dining room, and surrounded by beautiful landscaped gardens presenting a fabulous show of roses in the spring.

The community hall and activities/recreation room are the central common areas regularly used by the Residents. They certainly know how to enjoy themselves and every day there is something different to do, with an extensive variety of social activities.

On Friday nights a group of  residents gather together in the dining room for pre dinner drinks and nibbles and of course a good deal of talking.

The last Sunday of each month Happy Hour is held where the residents committee organise platters of finger food and serve drinks and a lucky door prize is given away. This is the way new residents are inducted into the fold, a way to meet and greet.

Also, every month, there is a “Chicken” dinner group…… a group of residents who meet in the Library for champers, before dining in the top room at 6pm for a roast chicken dinner, including soup and dessert and lots of good cheer.

But the most popular events are the dinner evenings and theme dinners at which over 100 residents always attend. They dress up and have a good time.
We’ve had Italian nights, A French evening, a Middle Eastern dinner with a Belly Dancer as entertainment, Indian curry nights, Chinese banquets and more.

Everyone gets involved in selecting the menu, decorating the room, making table name placement cards and setting the tables, the dining room always looks a treat.
On the night, the dining room is a buzz of excitement with residents moving from table to table, laughter all around. Entertainment by way of quiz questions, heads and tails, prizes and awards are given and games are played.

The mid year dinner was our 17th birthday and the village representative Mr Phil Le Cornu and his wife Mirella, the Manager, Bev Janzow and her husband Ian and Wayne Hogan from the Management Company all attended and thoroughly enjoyed the evening.

The residents like talking with the owner and management in casual surroundings and are able to talk about village improvements, the budget and other current issues in an open and less formal way.

Daily – A 3 course dinner is served in the dining room at 6pm, and on Sunday a roast lunch at 12.30pm. The daily paper and local papers are delivered to the library every day and the hairdresser is ‘in house’ 4 days a week.

Weekly - Keep fit classes are held twice a week, Billiards, Cribbage and Snooker are played every Tuesday, and Bingo on a Monday night. Indoor Bowls is every Thursday and Outdoor Bowls 3 times a week. A Masseuse and Podiatrist consult on alternate Mondays and the Community Bus takes residents to the Burnside Shopping Centre every Thursday.

Monthly – Musicale Afternoons consist of groups such as the Australian Retired Persons Orchestra, The Cornish Choir, The Concordia College School Choir, and Police Band.
Happy Hours, Petanque, Movies, Book Club and an Art & Craft Group take place, and the Burnside Mobile Library also visits.

Special Functions - Easter & Christmas Dinners, Theme dinners, Melbourne Cup Luncheon, Sing-a-longs, Fashion and Shoe Displays, Quiz nights, Bus trips, BBQ’s.
Fire Safety and Community Care lectures and speakers talk on a variety of topics.
Residents present talks on their careers such as aeronautical and general engineers, Company directorships, building, accounting, farming and more.
DVDs are shown of residents and staff overseas trips and holidays and two bus trips a year are organized. Victoria Grove has been the backdrop for the movie “Peaches”
A Charity fundraiser raised $1400 from a champagne, strawberries and cream event.

Open Day is where Victoria Grove shows itself to the Community, and last year in conjunction with the local and hills libraries and the “Every Generation Celebrations” the village held a “Retirement Festival” with entertainment and Devonshire morning tea.

The village makes an interesting environmental contribution, the rosemary and lavender clippings are sent to the animals at the Adelaide Zoo, the lions and tigers roll around on them and the hibiscus cuttings are sent to the Monarto Zoo for the chimps to eat.

So you can see that we offer a large variety of social activities and functions, but it’s all about choice, you decide which events you wish to attend.  You can still maintain your independence and your privacy in the safe and secure environment of the village.

The Victoria Grove website now displays the latest 360 degree walk through images using eyeNAV technology. This feature allows prospective residents to inspect the units by navigating on line from the comfort of their own home.
